The Perfect Prescription started life in 2008 as an informal blog that I started alongside my main writing outlet, No Ripcord. It quickly fizzled out and I didn’t really publicise it, but now it’s back in newsletter form. My questionable reasoning is explored in this introductory post.

There will be music recommendations!

Are you in search of music recommendations with a critical slant and just the right level of obnoxiousness? Look no further! Having written about music for over quarter of a century, I don’t tend to get overly excited about the majority of new things. If I do recommend an artist it’s because I truly believe in them. Either that or they sound like Big Star. Which brings me to…

Expect power-pop references!

Perhaps you’re open to older music recommendations too? If the album era began in the 1960s, that means there’s a lot more great music in the rear view mirror than you’ll find in this week’s release schedule. I’m interested in both.

Maybe you’re curious what a 40-something music critic thinks about the state of music criticism and what it was like to publish a moderately successful vaguely relevant online magazine in the ‘blog-rock’ era? It’s unlikely, but there might be someone out there who fancies a nostalgic retrospective on the first Voxtrot EP. If so, hit that subscribe button and tell all your weirdest friends about The Perfect Prescription.
